The Gods are a very real fact of life in Six Ages. Through the right sort of rituals, possibly aided by constructing a temple to the deity, various blessings can be accrued for the clan's benefit.
Learning the Rituals
During your migration, you have lost many of your connections to the gods. While you retain a few through the choices you make in the clan creation at the start of the game, most of them will have to be learned during the game.
To attempt to learn a ritual, open up the magic tab, select a god, select sacrifice to that god, and pick "Mysteries", choosing how much in the way of goods or herds you wish to sacrifice. Sacrificing will take up one turn's action limit, and will not guarantee success. Factors that influence success include but are not limited to; having a devotee of the appropriate god on your clan ring, the amount sacrificed, and whether or not you put magic into "ritual" during sacred time. Successfully completing a Mysteries sacrifice will grant you permanent knowledge of a ritual, and possibly open up the option of building a shrine; shrines cannot be constructed without knowledge of at least one ritual.
Note that if your God is associated with a Ritual, even a successful sacrifice might not teach you a blessing, but instead the details of the myth for that ritual. And while a successful sacrifice will grant you knowledge of a blessing, it might not be the one you want.
Receiving Blessings
In order to actually get a blessing, you must do one of two things:
- Sacrifice to the god to get a temporary blessing
- Construct a shrine or temple to the god for a permanent one
Temporary blessings
To acquire a temporary blessing, sacrifice an amount of goods or cows to the god. The process is similar as that of learning a blessing, except instead of mysteries, you should indicate a sacrifice to whatever blessing you desire. Temporary blessings last for one year.
Permanent blessings
If you want something longer term, you will need to build a shrine to the deity, or a temple if you want multiple blessings permanently active. Shrines will support 1 blessing, Temples 2, and a Great Temple 3. Building a temple can be accomplished without chance of failure, but costs a significant amount of goods, and will also require annual maintenance, to be paid at sacred time, to keep the temple going. Failure to have enough goods or herds on hand at that point will mean the destruction of the shrine and loss of the blessing attained from it.
